Discover the Patagonia - Calafate, Chalten and Torres del Paine
Deep in the Argentine Patagonia, the towns of Calafate and Chalten are the best points from which to visit Perito Moreno and the Glacier National Park. The park is most famous for the enormous glacier, Perito Moreno, a colossus of turquoise ice with a front 60 metres high and 5 km wide, which appears to be at a standstill on the edge of Lago Argentino. However, don't be fooled, observing from a boat in the lake, a haunting moan from the depths of the ice warns you that a huge chunk of ice is about to calve off and crash into the water below. Other activities include ice trekking on the glacier itself and hiking.
From Chalten you can discover the mighty peaks of Mount. Fitz Roy. The village is set in a deep valley with an impressive mountain range looming in the distance, and the surrounding area is excellent hiking country.
